You know where Lupita Nyong’o, Sienna Miller, and Joe Jonas were headed to this Wednesday? Well, if you were in New York City then the place to be was Pier 36, because nothing could top the H&M and Kenzo showcase that took center stage that night. An A-list front row witnessed a vivid dance recital style presentation with eclectic street-inspired apparel and accessories. Everyone who was anyone knew that this was a fashionably fierce moment in the making.
It’s been five months of updates and teasers, but finally, the Swedish high street brand H&M and French luxury label Kenzo gave us an up, close and personal viewing of their capsule collection and let’s just say, it’s even better in motion than it was in pictures.
Make note that H&M has had many notable collaborations before, with everyone from Karl Lagerfeld, David Beckham, and Beyoncé, to fashion houses like Lanvin, Versace, and Roberto Cavalli partnering with the clothing brand. Kenzo’s designers Carol Lim and Humberto Leon do justice by their predecessors with a collection that’s all about expressing your individuality, be it with a dress, a T-shirt, or even a jacket; each piece makes a powerful statement all on its own.
What’s more, celebrated photographer and runway director Jean-Paul Goude canvassed brand ambassadors who fit the bill and relayed the mood just perfectly. From known faces like model Iman and Chance The Rapper, to unexpected ambassadors like writer and activist Amy Sall, and photographer Youngjun Koo, the Kenzo x H&M campaign features creative minds from different walks of life.
There are shearling jackets, chunky knits and sweaters, plenty of transitional separates, floral ruffle Bardot tops, structured dresses, and many other striking outfits—basically, a lot to splurge on this holiday season. We’re loving every bit of it; are you?
PS: Some of the designs can feel a tad overwhelming at first glance but give them a moment to sink in. If you’re wondering how you’re going to take the look to the streets, here’s an Insta-video starring Rosario Dawson to show you exactly how it can be done.
