World domination; that’s how you want the story to play out, especially if you’re in the cut-throat business of fashion. And, given the dynamics of social media, nothing’s plain and simple anymore. Brands are constantly trying to engage users via multiple platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, Google+…) in order to rise to the top; billboards, TV ads, magazine inserts are no longer enough.
This is exactly why it was interesting to stumble upon a study that revealed the top fashion brands of 2016, which continue to dominate the social media space, making them the ‘People’s Choice’ in every sense of the words. They’ve gone beyond the basics of the 360-degree marketing campaign. Now, whether you attribute it to some clever social media marketing, click-bait leads, powerful brand ambassadors, quality clothing, or a genuine love and respect for the brand, here’s a list of the labels fashionistas can’t stop stalking and their most iconic products:
Seen making a splash with their Spring-Summer 2017 showcase starring Tom Hiddleston, and also, that gorgeous gift-giving campaign, Gucci continues to give us statement pieces that never go out of style. Topping the list would have to be the Tiger Princetown Slip-On Loafers (buy here), which are the best fashion cliché we never tire off. Why? Honey, you’ve truly arrived when you own a pair of these.
They’ve been on a roll since last year with fresh-faced muses like Bella Hadid and Robert Pattinson, classic ad campaigns like the one starring Marion Cotillard, game-changing beauty looks courtesy Pat McGrath, and Jennifer Lawrence fronting their new line of quilted and laser cut bags. But, even today, the biggest hit of them all are the #DiorSoReal sunglasses that have been spotted on Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Olivia Palermo, Rita Ora, Hilary Duff, Marion Cotillard, Lupita Nyong’o, Fergie, Rihanna, and many other A-list celebrities. Did you catch their SS17 showcase? Power dressing reinvented, and you have Karl Lagerfeld to thank for those Victorian jackets, beautiful ruffles and feathers, and uptown silhouettes that are reminiscent of Jackie Kennedy. Chanel’s always been a trend setter and is just as powerful in the fashion space as it is in the beauty segment; their makeup is really next level. So, while putting money on a Chanel LBD or a jacket may not be within your budget, their most popular perfume, Chanel N°5, luckily is. Buy it here.
#3: Victoria’s Secret
Is it any surprise that this brand is on the list? Women would give anything to own VS lingerie, their angels and models are easily the most beautiful women in the world, they’ve got bodies and workouts that inspire, and all of this is up for your viewing pleasure on their social media platforms. Also, what a casting coup, to get Bella Hadid and The Weekend for the Victoria’s Secret 2016 Fashion Show after their breakup! Last year it was about Gigi and Kendall, and we hear the next will have Hailey Baldwin at head ramp. If you’re looking for dupes and affordable alternatives to their latest collection, get them here.
With Alexander Wang, the famous Yeezy and the Pure Boost sneakers on their roster, Adidas has been flying high as they sell out of one collection after another. Adding to the list, we’re recommending the everyday sneakers by Stan Smith and Adidas, which are easier on the pocket, classic in their design, ride high on the white sneaker trend, and probably available at a store near you. If not, just buy them here.
Taking poll position for the second year in a row is everyone’s favourite brand, Nike. You know what we’ve realised? It’s not just the quality shoes and the affordable workout wear that everyone loves so much about the brand. It’s that they’ve always made a statement, be it about body issues, social commentary, bringing you positivity, teaching you how to love yourself, motivating you, featuring sports stars while others hark on with celebrities… Nike’s all that and much more. The brand inspires, and therefore, it sells. One of their most iconic products are the Air Max I Ultra Flyknit shoes by designer Tinker Hatfield. He drew inspiration from the Centre Georges Pompidou on his trip to Paris to cut away the foam on Nike’s Air. And there you have it, a masterpiece! Buy yours here.
