Feathers, sequins, sheer dresses—VMA’s 2016 red carpet proved to be a treat for the paparazzi who were busy snapping up pictures of Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Ashley Graham, Tove Lo, and Joan Smalls, among many others. The biggest conversation on the circuit, after the winners, of course, is always the ‘Who Wore What’ discussion.
Well, here are our two bits on the best-dressed celebs from that fabulous night.
A clear winner, mother-daughter duo Beyoncé and Blue Ivy showed us that no one does it better than the Knowles-Carter clan. Bey rocked a regal-looking silhouette from Italian designer Francesco Scognamiglio’s Fall couture collection…
… but, Blue Ivy proved to be an even bigger showstopper, and how! She wore a pale pink Mischka Aoki dress, matching Giuseppe Zanotti high-top sneakers, and a Lorraine Schwartz tiara—basically, totally adorbs! BTW, the little munchkin’s whole ensemble was worth over $11,000.
If sexy was the look Kim K was going for, then damn, the lady nailed it 100%. We loved this vintage John Galliano ruched mini dress. Also, the wet hair and nude makeup were completely on point.
Joan Smalls pushed the envelope with an unconventional ensemble. She rocked a criss-cross halter bustier with front-zip flare pants by elevated high street brand Off-White. The shoes were Zanotti, and the jewellery was by Jennifer Fisher and Irene Neuwirth.
Hailee Steinfeld is just downright gorgeous. She looked fierce in her Balmain mini and chose gold Zanotti strappy sandals to offset the colour splash in her dress. Well done, girl!
Hailey Baldwin is another IT girl whose wardrobe we would love to raid. She was working a palm-frond beaded Georges Chakra jumpsuit with sheer panels that created a sexy-chic peek-a-boo effect.
Taylor Hill slayed in a pink sequin Moschino gown with a shredded hem and burnout details. We love that she decided to pull her hair back into a top knot. The diamond studs added a touch of sophistication to her edgy avatar.
Rocking a moto jacket with fur shoulders over a cobwebbed sheer dress with multicolour feathers and super stacked Mary Janes (all Marc Jacobs, phew), Rita Ora was totally badass and a cut above the rest.
The stunning Holland Roden looked ethereal in a white jumpsuit with a matching cape by Kayat. She paired it with Stuart Weitzman heels and a Tyler Elli clutch which we initially were wishing would’ve packed in some colour. But, the wine lip and thick brows more than made up for it.
Nicki Minaj flaunted her curves in an indigo Bao Tranchi gown. She kept her makeup and jewellery (Harry Kotlar earrings and a Le Vian ring) understated, which let the dress do all the talking.
