Makeup

A self-proclaimed makeup hoarder, Hope Flynn’s always busy reviewing beauty products and snapping up all that’s new in the makeup aisle. So, for the someone who has tried-and-tested more than a 100 must-haves, narrowing it down to just five was quite the challenge. Let’s find out why these, in particular, are the blogger’s all-time favourites. (And who knows, maybe they become yours too.)

1. Lancome Juicy Shaker Lip Gloss

Lancome

£19.50

First of all, the packaging of this lip gloss is absolutely gorgeous! It’s a bi-phased formula and it contains sweet almond oil, omega 3, and cranberry oil which help nourish your lips and give you a soft and plump (yet natural) looking pout.

The sponge applicator ensures a soft and easy-glide application, and it also helps you pick up just the right amount of product. Now, even though I steer clear of Lancome because it’s a bit pricey, this is one makeup must-have that I absolutely think is worth investing in. In fact, it made me want to try more from the brand’s beauty line.”

2. Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss

Hourglass

£22

This is a silky, high-shine lip gloss that claims to also hydrate the lips. What I like is that it comes in a wide range of shades and the colour payoff is amazing! It’s long-lasting (you can see the undertones even at the end of the day), and the scent is delectable. Another big plus is that it doesn’t feel sticky like other lip glosses, and in fact, it’s very lightweight upon application.”

3.  New Look Crystal Mattifying Primer

New look

£7.99

The primer helps get rid of the shine on your skin and gives you a matte base for your makeup whilst also minimising the appearance of pores—basically, it’s perfect for me (and others like me). The pores around my nose are quite large and, I’ve always preferred a matte finish from my beauty looks.

The primer doesn’t feel oily, nor does it apply thick like so many others do. Along with my foundation, it creates a flawless lightweight base, and what’s more, it’s just £8!

4. Urban Decay Liquid MoonDust Cream Eyeshadow

Urban decay

£15.50

These UD Moondust eyeshadows are amazing. They’re so pigmented; the colours are gorgeous and the sparkle is to die for. Plus, they blend so well. I love how easy they are to use and how quickly you can throw a look together.

When you’re in a rush, these are great to just dab on your eyelid and blend it out. It makes it look like you’ve spent ages with eyeshadow and glitter to create a perfect look when in reality, it only takes a couple of minutes! It’s a bit pricey for a single liquid shade, but with the amazing quality and the fact that they’re long-lasting, I can’t really complain much.”

5. Stila Bright&Bold Liquid Lipstick Set

Stila

£12.55

“The set’s got three berry-based colours—red, fuchsia, and lavender/purple. They are quite bold (as the name suggests) but, with certain looks, I think I can make them work. I’ll be honest, I tend to use Beso (the red) more often than Viola and Lume just because I’m not really a purple-lip-wearing kind of girl. And Beso is such a beautiful and versatile red—it’s perfect for parties and events.

That being said, the formula of the liquid lipsticks is A-MA-ZING! They are so easy to apply, they don’t smudge or smear, and they last all day and all night. Furthermore, this is probably the first matte liquid lipstick that actually feels weightless and creamy rather than drying. For testimony on how long-lasting these lipsticks are, I wore Beso out to a club recently and it stayed in place, no smudging and no transfer, all night through drinking, shots, and a whole lot of dancing.”
