Move over pop reds and bright pinks. It’s the ushering in of the bold and the beautiful colour palette that’s edgy and will make your pout your best feature. After black and deep wine lipsticks made their presence felt last year, 2017 is taking a lot of unexpected lip colours into the fold because cat-eye is so yesterday—your focus feature should be your lips.

Of course, there will never be a makeup collection without the generic reds, pinks, and nudes, but now they all look the same regardless of the brand and you can only do so much with 50 shades of red. Shop for some unconventional shades to mix it up through the week or day. Think green, blue, black, purple, or even yellow. It may take some getting used to, but the block is in your mind, the pop is on your lips, and that’s why all eyes are on you. 🙂

Do you dare?

Yves Saint Laurent, £26

Here’s a rather safe unconventional (a paradox, we know) colour to start off with. This light purple shade is beautiful on it’s own or it can be used to create an ombre lip for that smokey effect.

MAC, £16.50

An earthy tone with a hit of oomph, this lip colour by MAC is a head turner without being way too loud or bright. A nude canvas with brown, shimmery eyes will compliment this lip colour perfectly.

Urban Decay, £15.50

Possibly the boldest and most fierce lip colour of the lot, this black shade by Urban Decay is not for the faint-hearted. There’s been a sudden shift toward black lip colours with bloggers sporting this shade more often than not.

Uslu Airlines, £18

If you’re really feeling like making a bold statement with your lipstick, this lipstick by Uslu Airlines is just what you need.  In case you missed the memo, yellow is big in 2017 (yes, even for your lips!)

MAC, £16.50

If you aren’t one for bright or dark shades, you’ll love this color. On its own, the shade will leave your lips looking like a luscious brick of gold. Alternatively, you can add extra shine to your regular lip colour with this lipstick which is sheer enough to serve as a gloss.

NARS, £25

This wine coloured lipstick by NARS is just the perfect lip colour for fall. All you need is a smokey eye, contoured cheeks, and a personality to match and you’ll be making heads turn.

Urban Decay, £15.50

This gorgeous dark blue has a beautiful, strong pigment that makes for a perfect bold lip. You can wear it as is or if you’re feeling experimental, create an ombre effect using black.
