We’re slowly but surely getting to that turning point of fall, where the weather is getting inevitably colder and it’s no longer possible to head outside without a coat or a thick jacket.
This time of year wreaks absolute havoc on your skin because of the severe change of temperatures. You’re warm and toasty inside your home or office and then have to keep heading out to minus numbers whenever you need to go somewhere.
The trick is to develop a skincare routine that your skin will thank you for. It takes some practice to figure out what works for you but, once you do, it’s so worth it!
Here’s how to create the perfect skincare routine this fall.
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser.
beautyblender Liquid Blender Cleanser, £19.45
Fresh Beauty Besties Skincare Gift Set, £20.00
Due to pesky central heating systems stripping the air of its natural moisture in your home, your skin completely dries out at this time of year.
Rule 101 during the fall/winter months is to invest in a gentle cleanser. By gentle cleanser, we don’t mean one that’s completely plugged with harsh chemicals and ingredients which are going to wear down your skin.
We recommend purchasing a cleanser specifically recommended for sensitive skin that’s natural, organic and hypoallergenic – and use this cleanser to wash your face both morning and night.
Use a toner.
Caudalie Beauty Elixir, £32.00
Even ladies with the most normal of skin tones can find themselves with a disrupted complexion during the colder seasons.
A lot of us will find ourselves with combination skin, where some areas are drier than others. To even out the balance of your skin, simply use a soothing toner after cleansing on a morning. This will work on the trickier areas of your complexion to minimise the appearance of pores and create one smooth texture.
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!
Clarins Beauty SOS Collection, £31.00
Trish Mcevoy Beauty Booster Tinted Moisturizer, £58.00
You can never apply too much moisturizer during this time of year. After cleansing and toning on a morning, the next step is to grab your moisturizer and go crazy!
A ten pence piece is a good amount to get full, complete coverage across all aspects of your face. Make sure you use a product that is nourishing and contains multi-vitamins, to feed your skin what it’s losing ever so quickly during fall/winter.
Even if you’re prone to oily skin, you still need to slap the moisturizer on there. Try and apply it morning and night to clean, washed face – and you’ll soon start to notice the difference.
Apply a refreshing eye cream.
Trish Mcevoy Beauty Booster Advanced Repair Retinol Eye Cream, £95.00
One of the things that we all struggle with at this time of year is getting out of bed when it’s dark on a morning and freezing cold outside. We often don’t want to open our eyes – let alone go to work or get on with our day!
Give those peepers a helping hand by incorporating a revitalizing eye cream into your morning routine. Not only does an eye cream help you to open your eyes, but it moisturizes the skin around your eyes and eliminates any crusty bits of sleep that might still be lingering.
Remove make-up with micellar water.
Micellar water might only be a couple of years old in the beauty world, but what would we do without it now?
Micellar water is used primarily as a make-up remover, but it also cleanses and moisturizes your skin at the same time. This is because the micelles, that the water is made up of, are attracted to dirt and oil – and draw out impurities without dehydrating the skin.
For those of you who haven’t implemented micellar water into your beauty routine yet – you’re definitely missing out! Start now this fall.
Rejuvenate your skin with a face mask.
Co Beautypro Nourishing Llagen Sheet Mask With Olive Extract, £4.95
Maskeraide Beauty Rest’ore Facial Sheet Mask, £5.00
Once per week, why not give your skin a treat with a re-energizing face mask. There are so many varieties currently available in stores, but you should choose a re-hydrating and replenishing type for the colder months.
It’s usually recommended that you apply the mask once you’ve washed your face, so a good time to do this would be on a night. Then simply let the mask get to work! Make sure you don’t leave the mask on any longer than is recommended to allow yourself to achieve the best results.
Keep up with your routine!
It can be challenging to find a skincare routine that works for you but, once you do, try to stick to it. Your skin needs regularity and constant work for it to continuously be at the place that you want it to be.
Oh, and no sleeping in your makeup- no matter how much you’re tempted! This just clogs your pores and encourages you to break out.
It’s at this time of year that skin needs the most TLC (that’s tender, loving care!) But if you treat it right, you might just find that you have the perfect, enviable complexion this fall.
