The 89th Academy Awards just came to a close and it’s been a whirlwind of La La Land versus Moonlight hiatus, prestigious awards, before and after parties, designer controversies and of course, some stunning red carpet appearances. We saw lace peek-a-boos, tiered dresses, never-ending trains, and a LOT of glitter and gold as actresses walked down the Oscar 2017 red carpet dressed looking like the most glorious versions of themselves. Luckily, the days of Oscar Monstrosities and fashion fails are a thing of the past; (but, hey, here’s a recap of the worst dressed, ever!).
As for the Academy Awards this year, these 10 best dressed celebs are the only ones you really need to see:
The lady stunned in a Givenchy Haute Couture fringed dress. Needless to say, it was as whimsical as her movie and we’ve always been fans of her red carpet style statements. She took home the award for the Best Actress and scored a spot in our Best Dressed list. Way to go, Emma.
She’s been doing a solid turn in terms of colour and as much as we loved her in the two-toned blue at the BAFTAs, and the white satin strapless at SAG 2017, the Oscar dress was fittingly the most special. That colour on her skin tone makes her look like a goddess. The interesting neckline and sleeves also helped balance out the long train on that Armani Privé creation.
Azzedine Alaia understands just how sexy Scarlett can be. The sheer number tastefully revealed some sideboob and that fierce tattoo we love to get a sneak a peek of. Very feminine in terms of colour palette + belted waist + billowing silhouette, if you’re wondering why this is a favourite, you obviously haven’t read our SS17 trend report yet. Let’s just say, Dior would approve!
No time to chill, the Fifty Shades Darker actress went from promotional events to the Oscars red carpet, all in one month. She opted for an unconventional gold gown by Gucci that reminded us of Egyptian princesses, and maybe even the Oscar statue itself. What’s more, she packed in some more bling with a necklace by Cartier and surprisingly, it still looked just right. We think it was the muted hair and makeup that did the trick. You?
The very first thing we spotted on Kloss was that blinding diamond choker by Nirav Modi. We hear it’s from a collection inspired by India’s royal families, where the diamonds weigh in at 38 carat, all of which have been set on 18k white gold. The earrings, well, the rose cut diamonds have a French aesthetic and weigh in at 5 carat. With all that bling, a tailored white Stella McCartney creation, ’60s-style blonde waves, and the ACLU blue ribbon, Ms Kloss tugged at our heart’s strings for all the right reasons.
After lashing out at Karl Lagerfeld for making defamatory statements about her, Meryl Streep casually strolled on to the red carpet in pencil pants and an embellished Elie Saab dress. Her infamous air of nonchalance made its way into her dress as well, and her confident smile was her best accessory. BTW, she’s 67, she’s fabulous, she’s a feminist, she’s not afraid to express her opinion—she’s everything we hope to be some day.
Very bling and hugging her body in just the right places, the gold gown by Kaufman Franco looked gorgeous on Jessica Biel because what better way to wrap an hour glass figure than with gold? We hear 200 baguette diamonds came together for her handcrafted 60-carat neckpiece by Tiffany & Co. Well, well, look at you, Ms Fancy pants.
Queen Halle Berry was a class apart from the other appearances. Her hairdo, which was equally loved and mocked by others, is a quirky HIT in our books. The Atelier Versace embodied feminine grace with its wrap style top and mermaid train, while the diamond string earrings by Forevermark balanced the shimmering hem of her dress.
Emma Roberts & Michelle Williams
Emma Roberts wore Armani Privé and Michelle wore Louis Vuitton; well, we’re already certain everyone’s pegging this as a “Who wore it better?”, or “B***h, stole my look” in fashion magazines. Honestly, they both looked equally stunning so we don’t mind the twinning (#winning) thing going on here. They’re young, they’re fabulous, and we’d happily steal their style for an event.
Oscar’s Biggest Fashion Trend
The ladies at this year’s Academy Awards were all about the gold and in case you haven’t heard, glitter, shimmer, bling are all on trend for 2017. If you want to be the golden girl too, we’ve found just the dresses for you.
Now that that’s done, how about an Emma-style happy wiggle? 😉
