There’s always so much hype around fashion and beauty trends at the start of each season, but what about nail trends? Nail trends fall under beauty, as well as make-up, but it’s always make-up that is talked about primarily.

However, different nail looks are re-vamped every season just as much as fashion and make-up. Even though nails are often unfairly overlooked — not to worry, we’ve got you covered.

Here are 5 of the hottest nail trends for Autumn/Winter 2017 that will keep your claws looking fresh and fabulous.

Barely There

elegant touch nude collection - porcelain

Elegant Touch Nude Collection – Porcelain, £7.50

Taking inspiration from the minimalist make-up trend of the moment, natural beauty, nude shades were ever-present at the A/W 17 designer shows.

Beige hues reigned supreme at Mugler, whereas nails were completely stripped back at Mary Katrantzou with just a slick of clear, glossy polish.

Either way, keep your claws well-groomed and tidy in beautiful, neutral, understated tones – and simply let your outfit do the talking.

 Sparkle and Shine

isadora holographic nails - golden edition

IsaDora Holographic Nails – Golden Edition, £9.95

Glitter and sparkle are currently all over the high street as part of the 70’s disco fever fashion trend, so it’s no wonder that this look has now translated to nails.

The general rule at the A/W 17 shows was: the shinier, the better! Gold looked gorgeous on the claws of the models at Nicholas K, and pretty frosted French nails were featured in abundance at Sophia Webster.

Not sure if bling is your thing? Why don’t you go for a bit of a semi-shine a la Alice Temperley. This look consisted of natural, short, neat nails with an absence of a top coat on the models to create a partial shine.

Either way, this nail trend is ideal for your upcoming Christmas party or event. Shine on!

Pretty Pink

lime crime pop on nails

Lime Crime Pop On Nails, £10.51

Pretty pink nails were showcased particularly at Emilia Wickstead, to compliment their strawberry ice-cream coats, with the look emulating glossy, refined chic.

Whereas, over at Julien MacDonald, the pinks had more of a sci-fi feel. It’s official, ladies: chrome nails are making a comeback!

Pretty, feminine, and eye-catching for the right reasons, perhaps it’s time that you reach for that pink nail polish.

Metallic Magic

Gothic chic is certainly having a major fashion moment, so it’s not surprising that the beauty world has started to sit up and take notice.

From steel grey to jet black, metallic nails looked fierce for this season over at Mulberry.

However, it wasn’t all about dark nails on the catwalks. Lighter metallics were also very popular, taking inspiration from the sci-fi fashion trend of A/W 17.

We’re especially a fan of the textural silver claws that were seen at Daks. To infinity and beyond!

Lady in Red

House Of Holland Elegant Touch Party Luxe, £14.99

Following in this season’s fashion footsteps, scarlet nails were red hot for A/W 17.

From matte tomato shades at Paul Costelloe, to long, pointed fiery claws at Jeremy Scott, it’s all about giving your wintry outfit that much-needed pop of colour.

Simply combine your standout red nails with a neutral colour palette and allow them to take centre stage, or wear with bold pieces in similar shades to make the maximum amount of impact.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a maximalist or minimalist; there’s so much variety when it comes to nail trends this season. You’re bound to find a look that will suit you and your personal style.

Just don’t be afraid to experiment and get those claws on the show – then simply wait for the compliments to roll in.
