Fashion Month isn’t even over yet, but we can guarantee that Rihanna—and more specifically, her debut Fenty Beauty collection—will be the undisputed highlight of the season (maybe even the year!)
There were many talking points about RiRi’s first foray into makeup, but by far the biggest one was just how versatile it was. Rihanna worked hard to ensure her collection catered to women of every single skin tone around the world, and for that, we, and every other beauty blogger including an Albino girl has taken our hats off to her!
If you thought no one could beat Fenty Beauty’s whopping 40 (yes, 40!) foundation shades, you’d be surprised to know that some of your favourite makeup brands already have collections that cater to as wide a variety of skin tones. The difference is, not all are geared towards darker skin tones which is where we think Rihanna may have found her win.
Let’s take a look at some of the top all-inclusive makeup brands and yes, the three that have the same or more shades than Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty:
MAC Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 Broad Spectrum Foundation, £23.50
This brand makes it to the top of our list with its extensive range of foundation shades (45, to be exact)—yes, that’s more than what Rihanna’s carries, although Fenty Beauty is fairly inclusive of those on the darker side of the spectrum. That said, you cannot discount MAC’s wide Studio Fix Foundation range which comes packed with SPF and has a gorgeous matte finish.
Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear 24 Hour Foundation, £31.50
Also hosting a wide range of 40 foundations with an even balance towards both sides of the spectrum (light, and dark), Lancome’s Teint Idole Ultra Wear is a bestseller because despite being a liquid foundation, it gives great coverage, does not streak, and stays put all day. The texture is smooth and the finish is almost satin like—women love it!
Hourglass Cosmetics Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Sticks, £42
If you have highly pigmented oily skin with blemishes, this full-coverage, light-on-the-skin foundation stick is what you need, pronto! And, surprise, surprise… the formula works as a concealer, too. This long-wear, waterproof bliss retails at £42—a little steep, but worth every penny. You can shop from a total of 26 shades to find your match.
Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation SPF 15, £34
With 24 options, it offers just over half of the shade colours as Rihanna’s, but it’s still pretty extensive as far as foundation shade variations go. It provides a wide spectrum of warm to cool to natural shades, meaning that most women around the globe will be able to find a hue that suits them perfectly.
But what works most in the favour of the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundations is that the brand is known for its quality base makeup. It has always been Bobbi Brown Cosmetics’ forte which is why if you find your match with this tried-tested-and-trusted label, make friends with it for life.
Clinique Superbalanced Silk Makeup SPF 15, £24
With the Clinique Superbalanced Silk you will find yourself looking exactly the same at the end of the day, as you did just after applying the foundation. Clinique has really worked hard on the formula which doesn’t seem to streak, bleed, or give way even under stress and sweat. The line has got 20 shades and it’s mid-priced.
